If you’re in the midst of your Invisalign treatment, Halloween may be a little bit daunting. While the removable nature of Invisalign aligners allows you to eat just about anything that you would like, too much candy could still cause serious problems for your oral health. In some cases, it could even delay the progress of your treatment.

For that reason, there are a few things it’s a good idea to keep in mind if you’re trying to stay on track with your Invisalign treatment through the holidays.

Make Sure You’re Cleaning Diligently

Of course, the most important thing is that you continue to stay on top of your dental hygiene. After you eat anything, especially candy, you should be sure to clean your teeth thoroughly before putting your aligner back on. If you don’t, you could trap food particles against your teeth that could contribute to decay.

Make Cleaning Easy, Pick Your Sweets Wisely

While it’s true that you can technically eat whatever you’d like so long as you take off your Invisalign aligner beforehand, there are some foods that could make more trouble for yourself once it comes time to clean up.

If you decide to eat sticky or gummy foods that that can get lodged in your teeth, it may make it much harder to brush your teeth well enough to prevent the chance of infection.

Instead, if you want to indulge in candy, you may want to go for something that can be washed away easily. Chocolate is an excellent example, and can be a great pick if you want something delicious that won’t stick around.

Eat All at Once

While eating all your candy at once may not sound like a good idea, it’s much better than leaving your aligners off for an extended period of time and snacking. You could potentially spend less time wearing your trays overall, throwing your treatment off track.

It’s much better to eat sweets in one sitting, clean thoroughly afterward, and put your aligners back on. That way, you can make sure that your oral health is still in good shape come November.
